TODAY'S LESSON:  STRENGTH

I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENETH ME.

PHILIPPIANS 4:13

Many people in the bible had strength.  Physically speaking David was one of the strongest men.  In the Old Testament we find that as a boy he slew Goliath, and then went on to be a mighty warrior.

Unfortunately, though he had tremendous physical strength he was lacking in inner strength.  All in all David loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind;but "he had his moments".

Let's see there was the time that he lusted after Bathshebe, got her pregnant, and then sent her husband to his death.

Oh, and then there's the time when he was having the ark of the covenent brought back to Israel; one of the men walking along side of it reached out to keep it from falling and died immediately;David blamed God.

Yes, like all of us, David had many faults;but when it came down to it he loved the Lord with everything he had.

The two names that come to mind when I think of strength are Job and Esther.

Job lost everything in a matter of hours and yet he praised the Lord.  All of his friends asked, "Job, what did you do to deserve this?", and what's more his own wife told him to curse God and die"

And what do you think was Job's response to all of this:

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Job 23:10

And then there's Esther.

She showed such strength.  I'm sure I couldn't have done it.

She married a man that she did not know,

had dinner with a man that did not like(twice),

and saved her people from certain death.

Ok, you can say it now...

Job and Esther are alot like you and me.  They both had problems that were too big to handle in their own strength, but with God's help they were able overcome them.  How much better would we all be if the next time we get into trouble we said, God please help me.

And the Lord said to Joshua,

"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
