TODAY'S LESSON:  THE BIRTHDAY OF A KING

Well, it's here!  Christmas.  By the time you're reading this it will be Christmas Eve, just 1 more day to go.  Are you ready?  No, I don't mean shopping or mailing the cards.  So many people today put so much energy into the gifts, the cards, the food, the fellowship, etc.  They forget what the day is all about.

Back in the mid 1800's Christmas was adopted as a national holiday.  Why, because workers needed an extra day off during the year?  True as that may be that wasn't the reason why.  You see, back then government was still 'by the people for the people'.  Not so anymore.

Today, it's 'Happy Holidays' instead of Merry Christmas and 'What is Santa bringing you this year?'  instead of 'What has the Lord done for me?'.  Not too long ago we celebrated Thanksgiving, but you know, we should give thanks everyday.  If not for what happened at Christmas there would be no Thanksgiving, no Valentine's Day, no New Year, no anything.

So, you don't decorate the outside of your house with lights, you don't cook for an army, you don't throw lavish parties, you don't mail tons of cards, you don't even buy gifts for everyone and his brother.  Have you ever felt this way?  Well, if so just say

"WWJD"

"What Would Jesus Do"

When he was born there were no parties, no cookouts, no lights.  Well, there was the star that shone over the manger; but you get the point.  To the world it was just another day.  To us it should be anything but that.  The gifts that we share at this time of year are given out of love and where did that love begin?

Some 2000 years ago in a manger our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was born.  He didn't even have a decent place to lay his head.  His bed was a feeding trough for animals.  No hospital or midwife.  Just a young mother and her husband with no room at the inn.

Is there room in your life for Jesus

or have you pushed him aside just like the world has?
