TODAY'S LESSON:  WISDOM

"How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!"

Proverbs 16:16

There's just one problem:  there are 2 types of wisdom.

First, there's worldly wisdom:

In Matthew 10:16 Jesus has this to say:

"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:

be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves:"

   for

"The way of the wicked is as darkness:  they know not at what they stumble."

Proverbs 4:19

Remember, King Solomon?

One of the wisest men to have ever lived and yet he stumbled.

As time went on he learned from his mistakes and God helped him to write the book of Proverbs as well as many others.

Aren't you glad?

Proverbs 4:14 gives us this warning:

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

Verse 27 goes on to say:

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

So why should we stay away from evil?

because

"The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable:

but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness."

but

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."

Psalm 1:1

Proverbs 11:1 says this:

A false balance is abomination to the Lord:

but a just weight is his delight.

Wisdom is the principal thing;

therefore get wisdom:

and with all thy getting get understanding.

Proverbs 4:7

What kind of wisdom should we get?

WISDOM FROM ABOVE!

But the wisdom that is from above is

first pure,

then peaceable,

gentle,

and easy to be intreated,

full of mercy and good fruits,

without partiality,

and without hypocrisy.

So what's the answer?

How do we obtain and keep that

"HEAVENLY WISDOM"?

I think Proverbs 3:5-6 say it best:

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths."
